This engraving entitled "Facsimile Signatures to the Declaration of Independence" has, at the top, Justice and Liberty, with an eagle between them. The border includes the seals of the 13 original colonies. At the bottom, a vignette of the Capitol. It was printed in the mid-1800s.
This text is in small print at the bottom: "Department of State, 19th April 1819. I certify that this is a CORRECT Copy of the original Declaration of Independence deposited at this Department and that I have compared all of the Signatures with those of the origin and have found them Exact Imitations." John Quicy Adams's signature follows this statement.
Our copy includes a signature, in ink, but we've not been able to make our the signature.
The engraving measures 13.5" x 10".
The lower margin includes this text: “Ornament by A.H. Wray & Eng'd. by E.M. Cabe” and “Engraved by J.W. Allen.”
In an antique frame, with UV-protecting, non-glare acrylic for glazing. The frame measures 16.5" x 22.5"
We have found these in the holdings of a few institutions, but none in color.
