Copper medal issued for the United States Centennial Exhibition held in Philadelphia in 1876, also known as the “Danish Medal.”
One side shows a portrait of George Washington in a wreathed oval, flanked by winged cherubs holding a wreath above. An eagle appears below, with a banner reading “E Pluribus Unum.” Around the border: “Let Us Have Peace” and “1776 The Centennial Year of the United States of America 1876.”
The opposite side shows an allegorical scene for the International Exhibition, with America wearing a liberty cap and presenting wreaths to figures representing Art, Mechanics, Commerce, and Agriculture. The lower inscription reads “Philadelphia 1876.”
