A biography of Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States.
Eugene Lyons follows Hoover from his childhood in the American West and Quaker upbringing through Stanford, mining engineering, public service, World War I relief work, the Department of Commerce, the 1928 presidential campaign, and his presidency during the Great Depression.
The book also covers Hoover’s defeat in 1932, his criticism of the New Deal, his later public service, his work during another world famine, and his years as an elder statesman.
