A commemorative souvenir from the Grand Fair, or New Armory Fair, hosted by New York’s historic Seventh Regiment and opened to the public on November 17, 1879, with President Rutherford B. Hayes performing the opening ceremony.
The historic 7th Regiment was one of the most socially prominent militia units in the United States, and the Grand Fair of November 1879 was a lavish fundraising event that helped complete and decorate its new Park Avenue Armory.
The ribbon is in excellent condition and features The Citizen Soldier, the bronze monument by John Quincy Adams Ward and flanked by two American flags, with the text:
“7th Regiment N.G.S.N.Y.
In Commemoration of the Grand Fair Held in Aid of the Seventh Regiment Armory
November 17th 1879.”
