Tells the life of Benjamin Franklin showing a chronological account of Franklin’s life, including his apprenticeship with his brother, his move from Boston to Philadelphia, his early printing work, his partnership with Meredith, the growth of his reputation, and his work on Poor Richard’s Almanac. Later chapters cover his public printing work, his role in Pennsylvania affairs, his scientific interests, his experiments with electricity, and his public service during the French and Indian War.

The book also follows Franklin’s work in England, his return to America, his service during the Revolutionary period, his mission to France, and his later years. The final chapters include his death and an assessment of his character.
