The Marquis de Lafayette was a French aristocrat and military officer who became a key figure in both the American and French Revolutions. Washington and Lafayette developed a remarkably close and enduring relationship during the American Revolution.
Note that there is a small crack, perhaps in the glaze, across the bottom of the saucer but it is not visible from the top.
