Historical Background Behind the Design

Our original design commemorates WWII, with all of the battles in which American forces were involved listed in order, starting with the attack on Pearl Harbor through to V-E Day and the dropping of the atomic bombs and V-J Day.

For those shirts with the main design on the back, the historic 48-star American flag that was flown from the stern of U.S. Navy vessel Landing Control Craft 60, the sole guide boat at Utah Beach, is on the left chest. The years of America's involvement, 1941-1945, are on either side of the flag.

May 8, 1945 marks V-E Day, Victory in Europe, when the “cease fire” took effective on 11:01 pm Central European Time. The first signing of surrender occurred on May 7, 1945 in Rheims, France; a second surrender ceremony took place on May 8, 1945 in Berlin.

September 2, 1945 marks V-J Day, Victory in Japan, when Japan signed the surrender documents aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
