The illustration is by Maxfield Parrish (1870 - 1966), one of the most popular and widely published painters and illustrators of his age, for the poem “With Trumpet and Drum,” from the book, Poems of Childhood (1904). Below it, a verse from "Defence of Fort M’Henry,” which Francis Scott Key wrote in 1814 that officially became our national anthem on March 3, 1931.
