Historical Background behind the design

Burned President's House

First Lady Dolley Madison is often credited with saving the portrait of George Washington and other White House treasures when the British attacked the Capitol in 1814. But few accounts mention the help she received from one of her enslaved servants.

Read "How Dolley Madison saved the portrait of Washington from British troops in 1814, with help from Paul Jennings, John Susé, Jacob Barker, and Robert G. L. De Peyster, among others" for a detailed account on the events right before the Burning of Washington and what others had to say about Dolley Madison's courageous act.

Thanks to Michael Morrison for the encouragement to develop a design around the War of 1812 and the burning of Washington.

      What Clever Idea!

I really do NOT need another tote bag, but the Dolley Madison Art Storage bag was so daggone clever that I just had to have it! It's made of thick, heavy-duty canvas so it will last a long time. The 2 sets of handles, one for hand carrying and the other to sling over a shoulder, make the bag versatile. It's deep enough to hold a laptop, some notebooks, and books without feeling too bulky or uncomfortable. The only thing I wish it had was a small zipper pocket inside to hold things like pens. However, seeing Washington peek through the opening, along with the other attributes mentioned above, make this a 5-star product! I know I will get a lot of use out of this tote for years to come.

      Fun gift

My mom has a LOT of tote bags so I hesitated about getting her another one but she’s a Social Studies teacher and I knew it would bring a smile to her face. Nice size, sturdy but most important a chuckle for those in the know’.
