Full title: Dr. Benj. Franklin and the Ladies: Being Various Letters, Essays, Bagatelles, & Satires to & About the Fair Sex. Collected for the public delight by the Peter Pauper Press, Mount Vernon in 1939. 69 pages

Contents include:

  • Letters to his Mother, his Sister and his Wife
  • Letters to Some American and English Women
  • Letters to Some French Ladies of Fashion
  • Various Essays, Bagatelles and Satires on the Sex

We have two that are identical except one slipcase is dark brown and the other a lighter brown.

Both are in good condition.

As shown in the photos, the dark brown slip case is torn at the bottom and for the book in the lighter brown slip, eight pairs of pages have not been cut. The pages have a deckled edge and the books were hand bound, so these pages were simply missed. You can easily cut them open, or leave them as they are.

Shipping: $15. Please allow two weeks for shipping.

Historical background on the publisher

In 1928 Peter Beilenson founded the Peter Pauper Press. Headquartered in Mount Vernon, New York from 1935 onward, Peter and his wife, Edna Beilenson, operated the press with the goal of bringing fine typography, handmade paper, slipcases, and masterful illustrations to the wider public. Many books were famously priced around a dollar, a cost "even a pauper could afford.”
