Published by Ed. W. Welcke & Brother, 176 William Street, New York, this Centennial-era album was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The album includes:
- Two printed pages containing the full text of the Declaration
- Three additional pages featuring engraved facsimile signatures of all the signers
- Includes signatures of other attendees or exhibitors from China, Japan, Portugal, Morocco, and other nations
- A later owner pasted in a first day of issue four-stamp set showing Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence painting that was hand cancelled in Philadelphia on July 4, 1976.
Produced for the nation’s Centennial in 1876, albums like this were created to celebrate the founding generation and to make the text and signatures of the signers widely accessible to the public.
