About the Enterprise Mfg. Co.
Founded in Philadelphia in 1864, the Enterprise Manufacturing Company became one of the city’s best-known makers of household and hardware goods. From their works at Dauphin, Third, and American Streets, they turned out the cherry pitters, apple peelers, and coffee mills that found their way into kitchens across the country. Enterprise remained a fixture in American manufacturing for more than ninety years, until the company was acquired by Silex in 1956.
