A 19th-century edition of Thomas Church’s account of King Philip’s War, also known as Metacom’s War or the First Indian War.

King Philip’s War was fought in New England in 1675 and 1676 between English colonists and Native peoples led by Metacom, known to the English as King Philip. It was one of the major conflicts of 17th-century New England and marked a turning point in the struggle between Native nations and expanding English settlements.

This 1834 edition includes notes by Samuel Drake explaining the locations of battles, the geography of the affected region, and the principal figures involved. The volume also includes an appendix covering early European treatment of Native peoples, the settlement of New England, the Pequot War, captivity narratives, accounts of Native life, and later Indian wars through the time of the Creek War.

Contents include King Philip’s War, the French and Indian wars in eastern New England, the Pequot War, captivity narratives, colonial New England warfare, and Native American history.
