A classic, richly illustrated book published by the National Geographic Society in 1962 that serves as a visual and narrative guide to the most significant historical sites, monuments, and regions across the United States.

Each section has an introduction from a noted historian or writer.

Two editions:

• First edition includes jacket, but not maps — Note that the jacket is in rough condition. The first inside facing page has a small inscription to a gift recipient. See the photos for details.
• Second edition, with maps — Historical Map of the United States and map of Battlefields of the Civil War (double-sided). Copy is clean, with no inscription or other writing.
