Replica 18th-century-style leather fire bucket modeled after an original bucket used by Benjamin Franklin’s Library Company of Philadelphia.
The black leather bucket has a rounded body, leather handle, brass-tone handle rings, and gilt lettering reading “Library Company of Philadelphia” on the front.
On the bottom: “Library Company Fire Bucket,” “Replica of the 18th-century leather fire bucket used by Benjamin Franklin’s Library Company of Philadelphia,” and “Levenger.”
The Library Company of Philadelphia was founded in 1731 by Benjamin Franklin as a subscription library, and it remains an independent research library today. Since Franklin’s time, the Library Company’s collection has grown to more than half a million rare books, manuscripts, pamphlets, broadsides, prints, and photographs relating to early American history and culture.
