"Revolutionary Hearts" — Declaration of Independence Candy Hearts — Made in New England

"Revolutionary Hearts" — Declaration of Independence Candy Hearts — Made in New England

Updated at 11:05 am on April 1: Wow! What a great response. We are sold out already and will work with NECCO to see if they will do one more run.

If you were one of the ones who got your order in in time, please send us your pictures—especially if you empty out all of the boxes in the set and put the hearts in order.  If you do that, we'll definitely post your photo to social!

Earlier this year we used the colorful little candy hearts with messages for our limited edition “Break up” and “Love letter” shirts. The three hearts on the front had the words, “Life,” “Liberty,” and “Happiness” on them. (We still have a few left: crew neck shirts, v-necks for women, and hoodies.)

Given the momentous occasion we are all celebrating in 2026, earlier this year we reached out to the historic New England Confectionery Company, or NECCO, located in Cambridge with an idea.

The company has a long history, and one of their many beloved products are the "Sweethearts" candies, which they created in 1866. (They loved the shirts.)

We thought that they might have something planned for the 250th, but it turns out that they didn’t and they were very receptive to our idea: Take the text of the Declaration—the important words and phrases—and put it on the hearts.

Of course that would take a pretty large box to include the entire Declaration, so they came up with the idea of creating a set. An individual can buy any box they want, but if they buy all nine, which are grouped together in the fantastic display they came up with (pictured), you get the entire Declaration, and it's only $17.76.

This is a limited run, and while we’re in hopes that we’ll be able to offer them all the way through to July 4, if they’re popular and sell out before, we’ll get ahold of the good folks at NECCO and see if they would be willing to do another run. They’ve been great to work with.

As shown in the photo, these new "Revolutionary Hearts” are also now available—at least, were available—in a handful of gift shops, including the one pictured below in Philadelphia.  (I found out later that they had just set out the display when I walked in. By the time I left, the display had been pretty well picked over.)
