Sherman’s firsthand account of his life and military service, including his prewar years, Civil War command, and major campaigns at Shiloh, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Also includes detailed maps prepared at Sherman’s request and appendices containing letters written in response to the 1875 first edition.
Sherman remains one of the most debated figures of the Civil War. His memoirs include accounts of his service under Ulysses S. Grant, his views on strategy, and his campaigns against the economic and military infrastructure of the Confederacy.
