Note that the photos were taken before the acrylic was placed in the frame. There are some small changes I wanted to make that I simply didn't get done in time for the photos. This is the frame and the mat I'll use, and the acrylic will be the museum-grade, UV-protecting non-glare acrylic we use for the other things we frame.
A finely woven silk commemorative ribbon featuring a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, produced in the Machinery Department of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Made by the Warner Manufacturing Co. of Paterson, New Jersey, one of the leading American silk producers of the period. The ribbon centers on a bearded portrait of Lincoln framed by a floral border and topped with a spread-winged eagle clutching the U.S. shield. The full text of Lincoln’s 1865 Second Inaugural Address is woven below, one of the most enduring statements of national purpose and reconciliation.
"With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphans; to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations"
This example retains its original tassel, a detail often missing in surviving pieces and, especially notable, it's still attached to the paper it was distributed on at the exposition. The fact that it was woven at the fair is included at the bottom of the piece of paper.
Will be framed in the antique solid wood frame shown, with the mat shown, and the glazing will be museum-quality UV-protecting, non-glare acrylic.
