The center features a raised portrait of Christopher Columbus, with his name around the portrait. The surrounding design includes scenes tied to Columbus’s voyage and legacy, including ships, navigational imagery, figures in motion, and scenes labeled around the rim.

The outer inscription references the Exhibition of Chicago, His Coming Back, His Arrival, and Discovery of America 1492. The design connects Columbus’s 1492 voyage with the late-19th-century commemoration held in Chicago.
