Also on the front, "Include new and special maps of Battle Areas."
This 1940 edition of Hammond’s Self-Revising World Atlas includes an extensive collection of updated maps, indexes, statistics, and a detailed gazetteer.
Anticipating the shifting borders that would result from the Second World War, Hammond included a coupon in the front of this volume promising a future supplement—maps showing “the new boundaries of all warring countries.” The coupon, still intact in this copy, was never redeemed, offering a fascinating glimpse into the uncertainty and foresight of the era.
This edition spans 48 pages of full-color maps, tables, and illustrations. It's great reference and reminds you of the world at war, when the future was very uncertain.
On the back, an ad for U.S. Defense Savings Bonds and Stamps with an image of the famous Minuteman statue near North Bridge in Concord.
This "Self-Revised" world atlas is a valuable reference and a compelling artifact of a world in flux.
