Retreat of the British from Concord
This shows a view we're not used to seeing, and is very well done. Note the details, both in the center of the image and off in the distance as you see the smoke from the fire that the Regulars set.
This c. 1860 steel engraving was done by Alonzo Chappel, a painter and illustrator. Born in New York in 1828, he studied at the National Academy and exhibited at the American Institute before he was seventeen. He is mainly known as an illustrator of historical books, with most dealing with the American Revolution and the Civil War.
It is in excellent condition, in a beautiful antique frame with UV protecting non-glare acrylic.
