The history of WWII posters

The Office of War Information (OWI) Bureau of Graphics was the government agency in charge of producing and distributing propaganda posters. The war posters were not designed by the government, but by artists who received no compensation for their work. Government agencies held competitions for artists to submit their designs, allowing the government to increase the number of designs that it could choose from.

Almost 200,000 different designs were printed during the war. Posters were usually placed in areas without paid advertisements. The most common areas were post offices, railroad stations, schools, restaurants and retail stores. Smaller posters were printed for the windows of private homes and apartment buildings.

Love this poster

I *love* this poster! I love having all of these images in one place. There’s so much to look at and think about as you consider the individuals images. If I was a history teacher this would definitely be hanging in my room.

Fascinating print for WWII history lovers

I have always loved WWI posters, and this print includes more than 100 covering every aspect of life on the homefront, from joining the Women's Ordnance Workers to having a home garden, saving fat from cooking, not talking about troop movements, and "Fish is fighting food!" You'll find ones we've surely seen and dozens and dozens of posters you've probably never seen.

Very attractive. High-quality printing on heavy paper. Deserves a place in the home of every person who is a student of WWII. Great teaching tool for teachers, too.
