George Washington at Valley Forge Bookends

George Washington at Valley Forge Bookends

Updated on December 11, 2025: This has been sold.

A striking pair of antique cast iron bookends depicting General George Washington beside his mount, Blueskin, amidst his troops enduring the bitter cold of Valley Forge.

Issued by Hubley in the early 20th century, these are cast in high, crisp relief. Washington stands in full uniform, his cloak swept by the wind, with Blueskin—his famed blue roan horse—at his side. Behind them, the Continental Army marches on, their resolve as unyielding as the winter itself.

From Wikipedia:

Blueskin was one of Washington’s two primary mounts during the Revolutionary War, gifted by Colonel Benjamin Tasker Dulany. Though smaller than his wartime steed Nelson, Blueskin was favored for long marches, chosen often for his endurance and temperament.
