Updated on September 19, 2025: This book has been sold.
Full title: The Early Life of Abraham Lincoln: containing many unpublished documents and unpublished reminiscences of Lincoln's early friends by Ida Tarbell and assisted by J. McCan Davis. Published in London by S.S. McClure, Ltd. in 1896. 240pp.
Includes 160 illustrations including 20 portraits of Abraham Lincoln.
First published in 1896, this book was among the earliest efforts to thoroughly document Abraham Lincoln’s ancestry, drawing on newly discovered records, family recollections, and rare portraits.
It traces the Lincolns from 17th-century Massachusetts settlers through generations of public servants and pioneers, offering valuable insight into the roots of his character and leadership.
This volume is part of the sprawling archive of Lincoln books created by Tarbell from the mid-1890's through the 1930's.
The name in the front, Walter Bach, and the location, Hollywood, suggests that this might be Walter Bach, the inventor and manufacturer of the innovative Auricon sound camera.
The National Women's Hall of Fame calls Tarbell, " . . . the most famous woman journalist of her time. . . . In 1922, The New York Times named her one of the 'Twelve Greatest American Women.'"
