The completed monument was dedicated on February 21, 1885, and opened to the public on October 9, 1888.
Upon completion it would become the world's tallest structure until it was surpassed by the Eiffel Tower in 1889.
Featuring an attractive engraved frontispiece commemorating the Washington Monument's completion, which doubled as an invitation to the ceremony. Gilt lettering on front cover.
