Vintage red transferware plate to be sold at the Gettysburg Battlefield park as a souvenir most likely for the 75th Anniversary of the battle.
The plate features the Eternal Light Peace Memorial in the center which was dedicated in 1938. Abraham Lincoln at the top edge and around the rest of the edge is: The New York Memorial and National Cemetery, The Pennsylvania State Monument, The High Water Mark of The War Between the States (they were still using this phrase back then), The Virginia State Monument, and Soldiers National Cemetery.
On the back, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, and marked Old English Staffordshire Ware, Jonroth England. Imported by N.A. Meligakes "The Sweetland" Gettysburg, PA.
In very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.

This plate was produced and imported for N. A. Meligakes - Nicholas Antonios Meligakes, an immigrant to the United States from Greece. Mr. Meligakes was born in 1897, and authored many books about the Gettysburg area from about every angle you can imagine. Being a well known local writer, he also commissioned the Jonroth Company based in Staffordshire England to make these plates.
