About the author
John Marshall, born on September 24, 1755, near Germantown, Virginia, served as the fourth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Renowned as the longest-serving Chief Justice (1801–1835), he is often celebrated as the father of constitutional law. During the American Revolution, he served as a lieutenant and fought alongside George Washington in key battles, including Brandywine, Germantown, Stony Point, and at Valley Forge. Marshall delivered the announcement and eulogy for Washington's passing. He passed away in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 6, 1835.
