42-star flag — 1889 - 1890 — Framed

42-star flag — 1889 - 1890 — Framed

$1,795.00

This can be displayed two ways, and I've taken pictures of both. If you purchase this, I'll contact you so you can tell me which way you want it framed.

When I realized that we should offer both choices, I assembled it loosely so I could take it apart and show both sides. The flag, when I'm finished framing, will be tacked down to the mat in multiple places.  (This won't be visible unless you're very close to it.) Also, when doing the final mounting, I will trim the threads so that they don't go past the edge of the flag.

This was printed to be the back of a flag, but because the ink bled through so significantly, it can also be displayed with the normal orientation. The difference in color is slight, as you can see from the photos. — Lee Wright | Founder

The 42-star flag is a rare, unofficial flag produced for only about eight months between November 1889 and July 4, 1890. It was created by manufacturers anticipating the admission of Washington, Montana, and the Dakotas, but became obsolete when Idaho joined as the 43rd state on July 3, 1890.

The way in which the stars are turned is sometimes referred to as "dancing stars."

In a beautiful frame with museum-grade UV-protecting non-glare acrylic.

Size of flag: 11" x 17"

Size of frame: 18" x 22"
