Full title: The Centennial: Battle of Bunker Hill ; with a view of Charlestown in 1775, Page's plan of the action, Romane's exact view of the battle, and other illustrations by Richard Frothingham. Published in Boston by the Little, Brown, and Company in 1875.
Rare printing of one of Richard Frothingham’s final historical works, focused on the Siege of Boston and the opening stages of the American Revolution around Charlestown and Boston.
Frothingham, longtime managing editor of the Boston Post, devoted much of his life to researching the Revolution in and around his hometown of Charlestown, Massachusetts. His writings became some of the most important 19th-century studies of the early Revolutionary period in New England.
This edition includes several remarkable illustrations and maps, including:
- a folding multi-panel map with overlay
- a six-panel view titled “An Exact View of the Late Battle at Charlestown”
- a full-page battle plan
- a diagram of a redoubt
The book is in very good condition and it's quite unusual to find the map still with the book. (They are often removed and sold separately.)
